MAR is a non-governmental organization, funded in 2001, with its main location in Gjakovë, Kosova. MAR is a non-governmental organization that initially was specialized in the environmental issues. Later, the organization got involved in more specific fields such as waste management while its greatest successes were in lobbying campaigns and policy making on environmental issues as well as in public participation in the decision making processes.
Strategic orientation of MAR has been evolving over the past years from an environmental center into a center for sustainable development In 2005, MAR expanded its portfolio and scope of activities by becoming a Center for Sustainable Development. Currently, MAR is committed in three spheres of sustainable development: · Sustainable economic development · Environmental protection, and · Social issues.
In addition to MAR’s professional staff, MAR possesses a Supporting team, which is comprised of local experts with expertise in different areas of sustainable development. These experts are mainly working in academic institutions and consulting companies.
